Club Night 27/9/17
Welcome as per, to the blog. Another hefty throng again and that's with a few regulars away. Here is a synopsis of the evening with me propping up the graveyard spot with a mildly raunchy Pamela Brown. It was downhill all the way after that.
Herbie was here and with a bit of Buddy Holly, and I don't want to spoil the party with the iconic guitar bit from 'Blackbird thrown in. Worked well.
Duncan, who's learning the ropes in this folk club lark gave us 'Groovy kind of Love' (Courdroy contraceptive). Ably assisted by me. Neil played as well.
Electric Graham was next up for it with his E Bow in his right hand giving out some tasty electronic sounds. on 'One day like this' and we all sang along to 'Part of the Union'.
Banjo Alex gave us a couple of country flavoured songs with Gypsy Woman and Help me make it through the night.
Vaiden and Icky were of course in fine form. With jigs and reels and the 'Common People' in the set.
Keychange, Carole and Chris (no name yet) were next and what a good set it was, with a stand out finale which had a female singing section (The Lime Meadow Virgins) which boasted Carole, Val and 'Hotdog' Julie. They backed Keychange in the most wonderful Ernie, the fastest milkman in the west.
Two Lime Meadow virgins were next ,Husband and wife duo Ian and Helen. Helen performed two ace clog dances before our very eyes with Ian backing on accordion and violin. Ian then went on to play a medley of fiddle tunes.
We've now had five married couples/partners on stage now. Can you name them all ?
Nigel was next under the limelight with among others 'Me and Bobby McGee' and 'Aint no Sunshine'.
Polly plus the wonderful Autoharp were next and we had a good old sing . First time Polly has done a set with just the Autoharp. Loved the Carter famiy song and 'I still miss Someone. Correct titles if wrong !!
Tony GT was our next artiste. 2 Pina Coladas got us all singing along. Tony gave us a self penned song called 'Looking Back'. Plenty of pathos and was on an album Tony recorded.
Yes, another Lime Meadow Virgin in the shape of Paul graced the boards. What an eclectic mix ! A bit of Michael Jackson, Led Zepplin and some Stevie Wonder !!. Good set. Nice to see a nylon string guitar. I think it's only Up Yours that plays one at Lime Meadow. Lovely sound.
Don was next and played some tasty guitar.' Ain't Misbehavin' was a belter and Don threw in 'Latest flame' by Elvis for good measure. Good set Don !
Geoff was next plus dodgy knee.with usual good songs. Carnival is Over got us all singing again and 'You're my fantasy' was another. Good luck with knee Geoff !!
Bringing up the rear came S&M and the set included the very smokey 'Do you wanna dance' and the most excellent, 'I just want to make love to you'.
What a good evening, with three Lime Meadow Virgins and a real mix of instruments and genres of music.
The only self penned artiste tonight was:
The were no contenders for the ETA (Extensive Tuning award). Keychange came close but not quite long enough.
Don't forget November 10th with added artiste's Sally Ironmonger and Brian Carter. Free to all regulars and a mere £2 for non regulars.
Sept 30th is another date for your diary at Sanderstead Rec where our own Keychange, Chris and Carole are playing.
Thanks as usual to the helpers and Carsick for the song notes.
I hate Russian Dolls ! They're so full of themselves !!
See you in two weeks
