Club Night 3/1/17

January 04, 2018

Welcome one and all to the blog. A few regulars on the injury list tonight with various ailments but we had a good evening. We made it a game of two halves got extra songs and the odd laugh or two. There were too many songs to mention but as usual I will give you a flavour of what people sang and played.

Diamond Neil was in the graveyard slot and we had a  John Denver song  'Rocky Mountain High' and the foot tapping Garden Party.

The Silver Fox gaves something from the ever popular Ralph McTell catalogue (The Setting) and a old fave (not McTell) 'Punchy and Lefty'.

Up stepped John from the wilds of Orpington with a John Hiatt song 'Muddy Waters' and 'Pale Blue' among others.

Geoff plus dodgy knee but on the mend  crooned a Jim Reeves song and 'Nobody Knows when you're down and out', always gets us going does Geoff.

Paul was with us again and is now on the regular books. Paul had an Elvis theme tonight. We had 'Singing with Angels which incorperated Elvis song titles, very clever and well performed. Among others Paul threw in 'Houndog'.

Up came Polly armed with her melifluous autoharp and a moody left arm a result of falling up the stairs on holiday . We had 'Have you ever seen the rain' and 'As tears go by' in the set.

Stefan was with us again with guitar and Mandola (Nelson) and as always gave some background to his songs and instrumentals, always sensitively played. My accolades go some way to apologising for not writing down the song titles. Sorry Stefan, slip them in at the end of the blog.

We had our regular trio in action (still no name) in the shape of Two Capo Dave, Carole and Chris. Carole sang 'Magnolia wind' ( a stomach complaint me thinks), 'Tennesee Waltz (what's not to like) . We later had a rousing Country Roads.

I slipped in and did a couple of tunes, expertly performed, near faultless in fact, and received two standing ovations.

We all went on to play a few more songs each in the second half and very enjoyable and relaxed it was too.

Only member of the self penned club was yours truly.

Thanks as usual to you all for turning up and helping us to pack up.

See you all in two weeks

Chris
