Club night 10/10/18
Welcome one and all to the blog and our 5th Birthday. We only had 12 on our very first night and that included myself Sandy and Neil.
Tonight had a relaxed unhurried feel with plenty of good music. Neil was in the graveyard slot tonight and kicked off with 'Gentle on my Mind' followed by GT who gave us 'Fly like a bird, Her father didn't like me anyway and ''Montego Bay'.
Aidan and Vicky gave us a saucy little ditty called 'Wonderful Ass' a medley that was English, Irish and Scottish and three different time signatures. All good stuff.
Geoff was with us of course after his marine exploits in Turkey, and he has the scars to prove it. He gave us 'They tried to tell us we were to young', 'End of the World and 'Always on my mind'
The Silver Fox gaves us a thoughtful 'Autumn Leaves' a bit of Ralph MCTell of course and one from his Bobness, 'Don't think twice it's alright'.
Mike was up next advising us he was not a Lime Meadow Virgin but had been deflowered some while ago . Mike wielded a mighty Guild 12 String and sang 'Will I ever see you home?' The Ways of Man and Spancill Hill ably backed by our Aidan on Mandolin.
On came Pluto Swint's Rubber Band and gave us 'Peaceful easy feeling, a rousing, Whiskey in the Jar and 'Bad Moon Rising. All good stuff .
Don was back in the fold and didn't disappoint. We had the old Andy Williams song , 'Can't get used to losing you', 'Teddy Roosevelt' and one of his own 'Going Home'. Good set Don !
Nick the Slide was also back in the fold and with a lovely new sound to his steel guitar. He played us 'Houndog' Wake up Mamma and his own 'Old Friends' Some wicked slide was to be had. Loved it !!
Paul bounced up and launched into 'I'm so excited' Rock DJ (Dinner Jacket??) and a Rod Stewart song 'Julia'. Energy not a problem to Paul.
Charlie was with us and played us 'Piano man' with Ronnie on harmonica. We then had 'With my Heart on my Sleeve' and finished with 'Days' (great to sing along to)
A welcome return of the dynamic duo that is Ronnie and Richard. They gave us 'Malt and Barley Blues' 'Strange things in my soup' and the second saucy song of the evening, 'The Marrow Song'
I was was the penultimate offering of the evening and fluffed the first line of my song so went on to 'Buckets of Rain performing it far better than Alex, The wordy 'In Brooklyn ' was next and I finished with 'Peg and Awl'
We had time for Diamond Neil to come on and round off the evening with 'Baby Now that I've found you' and 'You've got a friend'.
Self Penners were:
Ronnie and Richard
A good eveing, thank you. A pleasant way to spend our 5th birthday. Here's to many more !!
