Club night 5/7/17

July 06, 2017

Welcome one and all to the blog. A warm but successfull night me thinks, though it was not an easy task fitting all our players in tonight. 15 in all no less. I must thank again those of you that played a song less for me. By doing so we managed to fit everybody in. Just. I'll just give a flavour of the evening as it will make the blog too lengthy.

I kicked of off in the graveyard slot with Nick who played some lovely slide on 'Learning the Game',

A Lime Meadow virgin in the shape of Alan who took over Carsick's keyboard and gave us a selection of tunes, 'Stairway to Heaven' being one. Nice stuff Alan please return.

On came Dave for a second helping of Lime Meadow and 'First Time I ever saw your face (Ewan McColl) was most excellent.

We next had Keychange plus Carol, Chris, Aidan and Graham. We had 'Jackson' and 'Delilah which got us all singing and also  had among others Jame's Sit Down. Excellent sound from our now in house band. Graham gave us another good Snow patrol song.

Eddie was next and in his shy retiring way got us rocking with Kansas City plus a self penned song from years ago but first time sung in public. Excellent !

Welcome back Ted and Anne with a selection of jigs and reels plus the Bold Grenadier. All foot tapping stuff.

Up came Golden Tonsils (GT) with his usual most excellent set which included 'The HighwayMan which is a particular favourite of mine.Nice little anecdote about Gerry and the Pacemakers as well.

On came Keith and kept the quality going with his songs, one being 'From Gallway to Graceland'

Aidan minus Vicky (no note) but plus Frank the Bass and loosened his vocal chords with 'Englands Motorways and a selection of jigs. Bass sounded really good on the jigs.

On came Geoff plus dodgy knee. Good songs as usual from Geoff with 'May the bird of paradise fly up your nose' an absolute belter.

Nick returned to the stage and gave an excellent version of Dylan's Man with the long black coat intricate guitar a joy as usual.

We had Rory next with some lovely tunes and playing. Sneaks in a few tasty chords. Got us all going with 'America' among others.

The Bard of Beddington was next in line AKA 'Up your Tony' and played us 'The Reasonably nice to me Waltz, a fave of our old mate Don.

Bringing up the rear so to speak our finishing act of the evening came in the shape of S&M. I was hooked straight away with Mr Bojangles a long time fave of mine, and well sung by Michelle, we also had Big Yellow Taxi. I was really chuffed to anounce their engagement tonight. Nice one and good luck to the both of you!!

We had three players in the self penned club tonight.

Eddie

Tony (UY)

Rory.

Must give a mention to Frank the Bass who joined various acts tonight and certainly enhanced them.

Thanks again to all of you who helped clear up as it gets us away on time.

See you in two weeks
